You’re pretty sure your child needs to work with a trauma specialist, but you’re not sure that any of the other therapies are the right fit.
Your kid isn’t ready for trauma processing, but their behavior and mood are letting you know that they need help getting there.
Your kid completed TFCBT or EMDR, but court is (finally) coming up, and they are panicking about testifying.
You’ve already done attachment-focused work (e.g., Circle of Security, Theraplay, Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, Parent-Child Psychotherapy), or you’re working hard in your own therapy and aren’t quite ready for active parent-child work.
You’re looking for a home base for your kid to come back to when new developmental stages or life circumstances make their traumas relevant again.
Trauma-informed therapy is flexible and client-centered.
Your kid and I will work together to figure out what they think and feel about the specific challenges they’re facing in the here-and-now. Throughout, I will honor their survival responses and past experiences of danger, loss, and disconnection. Through play and conversation, I will help your kid recognize the wisdom held by all parts of them.
In trauma-informed therapy, I draw on many models, including:
Collaborative and Proactive Solutions
Internal Family Systems Therapy
Developmental Needs Meeting Strategy
Send me a note to set up time to talk about what trauma-informed therapy could look like with your kid.
